our housewarming

planning our housewarming was exhausting…sam literally just stapled the moulding the day before…talk about procrasination.  It really gave us a goal to get the house in order, but it’s still work in progress…

some prep work…

since I didn’t have any time to start seeding for fruits n vegetable for the summer (april was crunch time for the wedding)…our flowerbed is full of weeds this summer.  to ultilize the space…i told sam to build a cover similar to a removable deck..got to love my handyman =D

our setup…

it really came in handy as we had over 40 guests…

food…we prepared as many as we could in advance…but the whole time we were busy grilling n giving house tours that we didnt have time to take pics of the yumminess…we only got some prep pictures

for the wedding we knew from the very beginning that we wanted something edible as favors since i never keep the favors…n while we were shopping at ikea for things for the house we saw their spice jars…*lightbulb turns on* candy buffet…

we gave everyone one to fill at the candy buffet…n can later be use as spice jars or for any storage…i use them to store buttons also…

we did registered for a spice rack…but with our limited counter space…we had to return the gift….n got a hanging rack for spices placed next to the cabinet from ikea…

Tea Eggs ~ we love EGGS…

hard boiled eggs

unlike amelie in the movie amelie, i love cracking eggs….(amelie loves cracking creme brulee)

the mixture

3 star anise…can be found at chinese supermarket…

2 tablespoons of black tea

1 cup of dark soy sauce n 1 teaspoons of chinese 5 spices (can be found at asian food market)

simmer….the longer u let it sit the stronger the flavor

marblized….we had some after 1hr and it wasn’t not strong enough so we left it in the rice cooker overnight (i like prefer my eggs hot)…at the housewarming, it was a bit too salty…

Cupcake pops ~ i learned from my failed attempt…this time was more smooth…but it took alot of time…inspired by bakerella

it takes practice…

i remember to put in the lollipop sticks this time =P

n decorate…given out as favors…edible favors are the best!

Grilled potato and onions

alternate potato n onions…add salt, pepper, n butter…wrap in foil n grill…

Rosemary n Garlic Tomato ~ we have a large rosemary bush in the garden…so we incorporate alot into the bbq recipes…we also did rosemary n garlic shrimp =P

they look so good!!!  and very tasty too…

our last guest left at 4am!  exhausting indeed…

more blooms…

with the wedding approaching, the house is a mess and we don’t even have time to do anything and baking is no exception.

I had plans to start a summer garden and a vegetable/herb garden but there is just no time or room to do so.  I’ll share some of the spring garden which is slowly fading away as summer approaches.

not everything I planted sprouted, the anemones didn’t sprout at all and the irises in the center seems unwillingly to bloom..

pink hyacinths…

purple and white hyacinths…

some muscari…grape hyacinths…

some tulipas…

mix purple tulips…

Some simple arrangement I did…over 3 dozens of tulips =)

and looks what’s blooming…yays!

i *heart* spring

i made a common gardening mistake…i think it was the engineer in me that made the grid….apparently that’s not how you’re supposed to garden…but instead cluster and group the blubs together for a more natural look…rite now, i got rows of flowers…boooo…but still pretty

the grid

last fall…

the spacings on the package seems to be too far off….next year…i promise the garden will be nicer, i was pretty glad that they sprouted since this is my first time gardening, although the anemones didn’t sprout =(  5 out of the 6 isn’t too bad…

cant wait till they’re in full bloom…planted different types of hyacinths…

my grape hyacinths (muscari)…i think i planted it too low =( well…got to learn from mistakes…

i got a full bed of daffodils…n since i’m rarely home during the day to enjoy them…decided bring them inside…i thought it would be hard for me, cutting flowers off the ground but instead it was quite a liberating experience.  now it’s put on a pedestal for us to appreciate them even more…there’s something very cheery about daffodils…it brings me joy everytime i look at them n they fit perfectly in my yellow kitchen…i cant believe there were over 3 dozens daffodils in the garden…

our cherry blossom tree hasnt bloom yet…sam said it mite not bloom the first yr it’s planted…booo….but our neighbor’s is blooming…i’m so tempted to bring my scissors n chop off some branches…cherry blossoms r gorgeous n i got the PERFECT vases for it…

i really want to start my vegetable/herb and summer flower garden this spring…but with the wedding planning & training…i barely have time to do anything recreational….so that has to wait till next spring…i wanna be martha…cooking out of her own garden…

lagging…

i just started a new job…causing less time in the kitchen…plus the kitchen was held hostage by sammy due to installing recessed lighting….

now that it’s done…i’ll probably think of making something in the next few days =D

martha

i don’t want to turn this into a wedding planning blog but i’m too excited for this…we got tickets to attend martha’s engaged couples show…n was overwhelmed by the goodies…show airs this friday…

my favorite is the martha stewart’s wedding cakes book…

i can’t wait to try out the recipes and decorating techniques….stay tune as i phase out cookie baking to other baked goods such as cake baking n decorating….
